Please note: We are not opposed to CT use. We realize it is a life saving tool that has revolutionized modern medicine.. What we are opposed to is the overuse of CT in pediatric patients, especially when the machine is not calibrated for a child's height and weight thereby exposing the child to dangerous levels of ionizing radiation, which is a known carcinogen. We are advocating for parental "informed concents" so parents can, at the very least, be aware that their child is being exposed to radiation. Also, we are suggesting that patients have 'radiation history' cards in their medical profile available to medical personnel. Every doctor that a patient sees will know if the patient has had a prior history of CT scanning and thereby opt for alternative modalities, such as MRI or ultrasound when possible.
