Brain damage caused by small falls of children at home is rare (it happens only in 1-2% of small accidents). But in Turkey, if your child falls at home and you bring your child to the ER with panic, the unexperienced and low paid doctor will order a head CT in most of the cases. In my country, mothers do not know anything about dangers of CT radiation. And thousands of CT scan is done on babies for no reason. The reason for most of the scans is panic of the parents that bring their child to the hospital and doctors that are extremely cautious because of inexperience.

Thank you for shedding light on something the medical/business community clearly wants covered up. Not to take anything away from CT scans, but to order them needlessly and expose our children to radiation is nonsense.

Thank you for putting this site up. I worry ever day about of my sons unnecessary ct scan and how uniformed I was about the dangers. What can we do to make it mandatory that patients be informed of the dangers? Thanks again for doing this.

Please read this message that I received from Dr. Silberberg today. I am forwarding it to the site so viewers can gain more knowlege on this wonderful initiative. Jill Dear Dr. Silberberg: Today SPR members participate in the launch of the Image Gently campaign, the initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging! What this means is that today over 400,000 members of 13 medical organizations will receive a message encouraging them to visit the www.imagegently.org website and to incorporate changes in their protocols for the CT imaging of children to significantly limit and reduce radiation dose. This message, this Alliance and the Campaign emerged from the pediatric radiology community and the SPR. The campaign message defines pediatric radiologists as resources for the general imaging community. So, be prepared! If you are asked for guidance, the SPR website has several informational resources to help: Sign in to Members Resources page of the SPR website and then access the PowerPoint presentation: Medical Radiation in Children. Please consider using this talk to educate residents and other medical professionals at your institution. Read the FAQ on CT and radiation dose (also linked on the Members page) Feel free to use the contact page of the Image Gently site to forward questions or concerns. An Image Gently poster will be distributed with the February issue of Pediatric Radiology. Please display the poster in the CT scan area to remind technologists to "child size" the CT protocols before scanning. Today, click this link to visit the Image Gently site and pledge to do your part to "child-size" the radiation dose used in children's imaging. Thank you for your support! SPR Board of Directors

Dear Mothers of www.MASACRR.org As a pediatric radiologist and a proud member of the SPR, I am proud to forward to you this email I received today from the SPR informing its members of the www.imagegently.org website . I wanted to take this oppurtunity to let you know and reassure the mothers of MASACRR as I have previously said that we as pediatric radiologists and our national society the SPR ( www.pedrad.org ) and much more widely with over 400,000 members of 13 medical organizations including the Radiological Society of North America have formed the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, a coalition of medical organizations and government bodies, in launching the "Image Gently" campaign. I am letting you know this as an individual as I am not on the board of either the RSNA or the SPR but am very proud to be a member of both. I encourage you to share this information with Bob Chevrier from Medscape and Dr Semelka who have written so much about this subject in Medscape. Perhaps they would like to run an article directing the Medical world to this tremendous effort and give it the publicity it deserves. I think this would be appropriate considering the previous attention they have given to this very important issue. I also encourage you to add this to your website as it has lots of helpful and very sincerely thought of important information. Best regards Phillip Silberberg MD On 1/22/08, PHILLIP SILBERBERG wrote: Dear Jennifer, Marilyn, Don and team Tremendous. I want to congratulate Marilyn Goske and her team for this outstanding effort. Please share with Marilyn and the others involved Sincerely Phillip Silberberg
